CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Metro 911 was reporting high water and localized flooding throughout Kanawha County this morning.
Officials advised motorists not to drive into areas where water covers the road. Vehicles caught in rising water should be abandoned quickly, dispatchers said.
Motorists also advised homeowners who see water rising around their homes to seek higher ground.
Kanawha County schools were on a two-hour delay this morning because of high water, although there were also several closures called.
Bonham Elementary in Sissonville was closed. The school has a history of flooding or being threatened by high water.
Bonham, Alum Creek and Shoals elementaries also were closed; and all schools in Sissonville and Herbert Hoover attendance areas closed
Gilmer, Lincoln and Roane County schools were closed.
Cross Lanes Christian, a private school in Kanawha County, was on a two-hour delay.
