U.S. central bank keeps interest rates at record low

The U.S. central bank, Federal Reserve (Fed), the interest rates at historically low levels of nearly 0 percent account, while the U.S. economy slowly begins to recover from the recession.

The base rate is the Fed since December 2008 at 0 to 0.25 percent held as part of an unprecedented attempt by the Central Bank of the United States to the economy and to breathe new life into the financial system to stabilize.

The U.S. economy grew in the third quarter of this year by 2.8 percent annually, the first positive growth period since the second quarter of 2008 and a sign that the economy climbs out of the valley. (afp / adb)
